1. Describe in one sentence what your working group works on at FutureScapes.
Our Root Ecology Group studies the belowground part of plants and ecosystems – roots, root-associated soil biota, and nutrient cycling in soils.
2. What do you think is currently the biggest challenge in land use in Estonia?
Understanding the true value of land, especially recognising the importance of naturally biodiverse and fertile land, and developing a broader understanding of why land use should be carefully planned.
3. Why is Estonia a good place to live?
There is plenty of space, unspoilt nature, and four distinct seasons.
4. Which book would you definitely recommend?
”Meie sisemine loom” by Raivo Mänd. I believe this book should be part of the upper secondary school curriculum because it helps foster a healthy self-awareness and a respectful attitude towards all other living beings.
5. Which place in Estonia would you definitely recommend visiting, and why?
Visit Emajõe Suursoo in November and take a moment to listen to the silence. It is a place where you can experience the peace and tranquillity of nature at its most authentic.
