On October 30–31, the RMK Nature Conservation Conference “Habitat Restoration and Protection” took place in Kuressaare, with members of FutureScapes also participating.

Raul Roselvald discussed the principles for selecting restoration areas for dry forest habitats, while Triin Reintalu presented the role of biodiversity in overgrown and restored wooded meadow.Aveliina Helm provided a broader perspective on landscape-scale restoration, linking nature conservation, climate, and planning topics.
Additionally, Jürgen Sarjas, Joosep Truupõld, and Ilona Tamm spoke about the impact of drainage systems and wetland restoration on water quality and greenhouse gas fluxes, highlighting the environmental effects of both reconstruction work and restoration practices.

The conference also reflected the goal of our centre of excellence – to inform future land use in a sustainable and nature-friendly way.
Bringing together scientists, officials, and practitioners, the RMK Nature Conservation Conference was held for the third time – previous events took place in Pärnu (2019) and Narva (2022).
